A clock, made out of wood finished using several traditional Japanese Urushi techniques. This is an estheatically pleasing and technically challenging piece to make. Choosing the Urushi as a finish means that it takes months to complete this clock.

The outer edge is inlayed using mother of pearl from New Zealand abalone shells, ground down to a thickness of 0.1mm to allow the curvature.

The clock uses both a mix of colored urushi and transparent urushi to allow for the gradient effect.

The mother of pearl fragments on the front of the clock are all placed by hand. One by one deliberately positioned to provide the best possible display of this extraordinary material.

The central color represents the color of the deep oceans and the inlayed mother of pearl fragments represent the life in the ocean.
